The bridge to Hindø - Denmark's 20th longest bridge.

Hindø is a privately-owned island located in Stadil Fjord, just north of Ringkøbing Fjord. The island has been connected to the mainland since the 1950s by a concrete bridge, which over the years has deteriorated to the point of collapse. In 2017/18, it was determined that the bridge needed to be replaced.

Sea Services ApS won the contract to establish a new drivable bridge to Hindø. The result was a 320-meter long wooden bridge with piles made of azobe wood and the rest constructed from oak.

Benefiting from the warmest and sunniest summer in many years, the project progressed as planned, despite the presence of biting mosquitoes and stinging bees. The project commenced in early July 2018, and the bridge was inaugurated by the builders (Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality and Hans Kolby Hansen) on August 20th, 2018.

Key figures:

  • 120 pieces of azobe wood piles, each measuring 6 meters
  • 2,000 meters of oak beams.
  • 6,000 meters of oak planks.
  • 2 tons of threaded rods and bolts.
  • 7 weeks of work in the West Jutland region.
  • A total of 105 tons of wood.
