Inspections of various underwater structures are conducted to assess their condition. This typically involves inspecting quay walls, sheet pile walls, pile constructions, slipways, or launching ramps for signs of leakage, corrosion, marine borer attacks, and other defects. Often, our engineer diver performs the inspection and reporting, potentially with support from our ROV (referred to as "Smølfen" or "The Smurf").
Inspections of sheet pile walls typically include thickness measurements as well.
Sea Services also conducts many inspections of sprinkler tanks. These tanks need to be periodically inspected for various defects and/or foreign objects that can clog the sprinkler system. Since the tanks cannot be drained of water,
Among the various structures that are inspected are:
- Quay walls (decay and/or marine borer infestation)
- Sheet pile walls (corrosion/cracking, often supplemented with thickness measurements)
- Ship rudders and propellers (marine fouling, damages, entangled ropes)
- Anodes on ships and sheet piles (condition and/or presence)
- Wooden piles (marine borer and crustacean infestation)
- Concrete piles (cracks and exposed reinforcement)
- Water channels (blockages)
- Tiles in swimming pools (cracked tiles and defective grouting)
- Floating bridges (corrosion of chains and damages in concrete)
- Cooling channels (marine fouling/blockages)
- Ships (marine fouling or damages from grounding)
- Sprinkler tanks (foreign objects and other defects)
Diver inspections are typically documented in the form of a report with photographs and descriptions, or a compiled video. During the actual inspection, there is an option to monitor the progress on a screen in the dive trailer or vehicle.
Often, these reports serve as documentation for various stakeholders such as contractors, consultants, authorities (e.g., City and Port Authorities, DBI), insurance companies, owners or homeowner associations. They form the basis for subsequent underwater works in most cases.
